Ministry Letter July 2017

Author

I find it gut-wrenching any time I hear news about famines occurring in third-world countries and while I’m grateful to live in a country that has never seen food shortages to this scale, and in no way do I want to minimize the tremendous needs of the famine-stricken countries, I can’t help but make a comparison to the spiritual famine pervading many Canadian lives. Our country is wealthy and healthy, so why are so many people starving spiritually?

Part of the reason is because we’re eating the wrong food. We seek to satisfy our spiritual hunger with earthly things. First John 2:15-16 warns, “Do not love the world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.”

It’s to these people Jesus says, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35). It’s only through faith in Christ Jesus we are spiritually nourished.

At Insight for Living Canada, we’re on a mission to distribute the Bread of Life to spiritually starving Canadians. But we can only do so much—we rely on your help to get it in the hands of those who need it.

Will you participate with us in this crucial endeavour?

Just as aid workers need help providing and distributing food for the starving so Insight for Living Canada relies on your financial support to provide and distribute the Bread of Life to needy and spiritually hungry Canadians.

When you donate to Insight for Living Canada, you participate in bringing relief to those experiencing spiritual famine.

Serving with you,

Steve Johnson

Insight for Today

Your personal nourishment is crucial during times of storm. In panic moments, you'll cut a corner on your meals. You'll also fail to get sufficient sleep. It won't be long before you will set aside prayer altogether and you'll find yourself drained, spiritually. Increased emotional pain mixed with decreased spiritual renewal can be lethal to your faith.
